Jacob (10 mos) has his second tooth coming in from the top. He is waving. I have found him sitting up in his crib a couple of times so I think he can sit up but I haven’t seen him do it yet. He says, ‘Na-na-na” lots. Those milestones came right around the 10 month mark which was a few days ago (July 16). Jacob is sort of starting to crawl on the bed and army crawl the rest of the time. He is beginning to eat almost everything: peanut butter and honey
sandwich, chicken, french fries, milk. Pretty amazing with no teeth.
We are thankful for no allergies. Of course we also feed him the
requisite vegetables and fruit. Jacob loves to be in the bath or pool and splash. He cries when you take him out and wrap in a towel.
Recent memorable quotes by Ryan (3 yrs, 3 mos):
- When I sat on the couch with one of his books, “Dad, can I sit on your pockets?” (meaning my lap)
- About our “new” 2007 Toyota Sienna we bought last week, “let’s not bring it back.”
- Driving home late one night, “Why doesn’t God take away all the mean?” (meaning all the mean things people do).
- With his new child scissors, “I was just trying to cut Jacob’s hair.”
- After reading The Angel and the Soldier book (which is very cute but has a Pirate with a gun) and holding a big stack of Lego Duplos in his hand, “Arghh, you can have 1/2 my gun if you want.”
- About numerous things: “This is terrific!”
- After asking him to do something: “I’d be happy to!”
- About a book, “Jesus walks on the waves. That’s a cool one!”
- When mommy was cleaning up poop: “Jesus will help you because he’s not dead. He rose!”
- Numerous times per day: “But that makes me sad!”
Ryan really likes to bat lefty though I am still trying to teach him to switchhit.
Ryan loves the sandbox at the Museum of Life and Science.
Ryan swims with his Spiderman vest and a noodle or a ring.
If we put them down for a nap at the same time, they look at each other and laugh and giggle for 15 minutes.
Ryan has been “fishing” with a cord which you plug into the cigarette lighter in the car. He has found various things that fit that he can pull with it.
Jacob loves cords as well.
Ryan loves to dance – especially fast country western fiddle music. He dances very well actually. He is recently enjoying Sandra Boynton’s book and CD Rhinoceros Tap – especially the song Barnyard Dance.
In the car, Ryan always has a huge stack of books he looks through. He knows his letters pretty well now. Amy and I always feel guilty both that Ryan doesn’t get outside more and that we don’t read to him more. There is so much parental guilt! See the guilt-inducing books:

Speaking of outside, Ryan gets eaten alive by mosquitoes if we do not smother him in Deet. He is very sweet and tasty.
Ryan also did painting (with Amy) for the first time this week.
Ryan continues to raid the kitchen drawers for tools of all sorts: spatulas, serving spoons, ladels, beaters, salad tongs – which he uses with balls and as construction tools. He is still very into construction equipment.
Jacob gave Ryan a big scratch across his nose but Ryan didn’t cry. A few days later it began to bleed again in the bath. I had Ryan get out and we painted on his tummy with the blood trickling from his nose. Fun!
Ryan is pulling his pants down, going the bathroom, and washing his hands by himself.
Ryan has been very interested in playing with “money” (coins) this week. His first game of “playing money” was throwing it on the floor. Mostly he liked putting the coins in the beds of dump trucks.
Ryan often says, “Mines.” You know, “Yours and mines.”
